To bridge the gap between the existing industrial character and emerging residential character of the downtown Campbell neighborhood, we looked to the historic Presidio in San Francisco for cues and similarly mixed urban elements with warm textural touches and residential forms. Red-pitched composition roofs emphasize the residential character, while clean lines, custom metal awnings and balcony railings relate to the industrial uses. A singular paint color highlights the careful use of varying materials and details, including brick and siding of different dimensions. Inside, the homes were carefully designed to feel open and airy, with custom details such as reading nooks and split levels. Soaring ten-foot ceilings, large transom windows, and dual balconies create loft-like spaces. Rich finished carpentry and oak hardwood floors add warmth and character.
These unique and handsome townhomes exemplify successful infill housing, where good design compliments the existing context. Madison won an Award of Merit for “Best Multi-Family Housing Community” at the 2017 Pacific Coast Builders Conference.
